Though he probably won’t be walking down an actual aisle, Charles Manson is reportedly looking to get married to a 26-year-old woman who has been visiting him at California State Prison in Corcoran. The 80-year-old convict, who is serving a life sentence for orchestrating nine murders in 1969, has received a marriage license to wed Afton Elaine Burton, according to the Associated Press, which obtained a copy of the document.
Burton now goes by the name “Star.” The bride-to-be is an Illinois native, who said in an interview with CNN last year she discovered Manson at the age of 16. According to CNN, she said she was smitten by the infamous criminal after learning about his environmental philosophy, ATWA, or air, trees, water and animals.
Burton later relocated to Corcoran, California, to be closer to Manson, much to the dismay of her parents. She operated the blog “Release Charles Manson Now,” in which she published purported letters of support from Manson fans.
Manson had previously denied he and Burton were tying the knot, telling Rolling Stone in 2013, “That’s a bunch of garbage. You know that, man. That’s trash. We’re just playing that for public consumption.”
The website MansonDirect.com has published numerous photos of Burton and Manson taken in 2013.
Manson has been denied parole 16 times and is not eligible again for 13 years. Burton told the AP she believes he is innocent and hopes to obtain information only available to relatives once she legally becomes Mrs. Manson.
