*There was talk that Hollywood would boycott fundraising for President Obama because of his SOPA [Stop Online Piracy Act] position, but you wouldn’t know it from Thursday night’s $35,800-per-ticket benefit at director Spike Lee’s New York City brownstone.

Mariah Carey and husband Nick Cannon were among the 60 guests in attendance, according to the pool report.

Lee’s wife, writer Tonya Lewis Lee, introduced the president to the crowd. “Another four years,” she said. The president took the microphone to warm applause.

“I’m not sure this has been reported by the press,” he said in his opening remarks. “On my first official date with Michelle, I took Michelle to see ‘Do the Right Thing.’”

Lee, who had heard Obama tell the story before about his 1989 film, interjected: “You remember what I said?. . .I said, good thing you didn’t choose ‘Driving Miss Daisy.’”

The president raised in the neighborhood of $1 million at the event, according to the Washington Post.
