*The documentary, “Nas: Time is Illmatic,” about the iconic debut album, “Illmatic,” from Nas will be released in select theaters nationwide for one-night only on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014.
The doc will be released in Los Angeles and New York City on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2014 and then, to iTunes, on demand and through other VOD providers on Friday, Oct. 3, 2014.
Nas’ fans and moviegoers will get a behind the scenes making of his groundbreaking, landmark debut album and one of hip-hop’s most influential albums to date.
He will take moviegoers on a journey behind his creative process, his upbringing and where he grew up in Queensbridge, and who influenced him.
He will share how the New York City hip-hop scene and his father, jazz musician Olu Dara inspired him. But he will also share how he had to overcome obstacles with his major labeling signing at 19.
Multimedia artist One9 steps foot into the role of director and producer while Erik Parker wrote the script for the film, and he helped produced the film as did Anthony Saleh.
The Ford Foundation’s JustFilms, Tribeca Film Institute’s Tribeca All Access program, and Hennessy V.S. supported the film. All of the parties wanted to help bring Nas’ inspiring story behind one of the greatest hip-hop album’s to audiences nationwide.
