Michael Jordan Charity

All over the world, Michael Jordan is considered the greatest basketball player of all time. He ended his professional career more than a decade ago, and his name still dominates the game. Born on February 17, 1963 in Brooklyn, New York, Michael joined the Chicago Bulls after his college days at the University of North Carolina. He dominated the college game in the early 1980s. Throughout his career as a professional player, he achieved much for his team. One of the greatest merits was winning the NBA Finals championship six times. He won the most valuable player award five times.

The world did not only recognize Jordan as the greatest basketball player, he was also known as a great humanitarian. Michael Jordan charities have touched the lives of many people across this country and beyond. He was involved in several charity organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club of America, Special Olympics, UNCF/College Fund, Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis, Cats Care, CharitaBulls, James R Jordan Foundation, Kids Wish Network, LIVESTRONG. Others include Make a Wish Foundation, Nevada Cancer Institute, Opportunity Village, The Miami Organization. While he founded some of these organizations, he has donated funds for many others.

CharitaBulls-logoThrough his Boys and Girls Club of America, he provided an opportunity for young Americans, especially those in need of help to develop their potential and become responsible people in the community. Through the Charlotte Bobcats and Cat Care, Jordan enriched the people within the Charlotte area and the Carolinas, by offering support and initiative in wellness, hunger, and education. The CharitaBulls is a charity wing of the Chicago Bulls. Jordan intended through this charity organization to improve the lives of Chicago youths by creating different social, recreational, educational, and other supportive programs.

Apart from these, he has been donating various sums of money to hospitals and struggling children all over the country. He continues to host the yearly Michael Jordan International Golf Tournament. Jordan was a major contributor to the famous Ronald McDonald House.

boys-girls-club-chicagoMichael Jordan founded James Jordan Boys and Girls Club, which was named after his late father in Chicago. The center was opened to the public after Jordan made a personal donation of $2 million and another $5 million donation from his team. The foundation was to strengthen and motivate families, youths and promote academic opportunities among children. It offers the youth and children opportunities to realize their potentials. This center attracts thousands of people across the country for different sporting and relaxation purposes.

It was in recognition of his humanitarian services and as a foremost basketball player that the US Senate honored him. This spurred him to do more for his country and the world. Through his Habitat for Humanity Foundation, Jordan donated $500, 000 to rebuild New Orleans following the extensive damage by hurricane Katrina.

jordan logoHe also worked together with the Nike subsidiary Jordan Brand to donate half a million dollars to help in the reconstruction of athletic gymnasium for community events. It was also on record that Michael Jordan had a great support for education initiative through other charity foundations. One of his educational programs donates $1 million every year for teachers. He has contributed to the development of humanity all over the world.

As you can see, not only was Michael Jordan a star on the court, but has been extremely generous in donating money to great causes throughout the world.
