Beastie Boys’ Adam Yauch playground vandalized with swastika

In one of the recent instances of hate-motivated acts that have sprung up since the presidential election, vandals attacked a New York City playground named for Adam "MCA" Yauch, the Beastie Boys rapper who died of cancer in 2013 at age 47.

Adam Yauch Park, located in Brooklyn Heights, was defaced with swastikas and Pro-Trump graffiti Friday night.

Yauch, 47, was raised Jewish, like surviving band members Mike Diamond and Adam Horovitz, but converted to Buddhism as an adult and was active in social causes, especially that of Tibetan independence.

New York City Councilman Brad Lander told the Associated Press that police were investigating and on Saturday, a Parks Department spokesman said the graffiti had been removed.

An incensed Lander called out the president-elect for decrying Friday's statement by the cast of Hamilton "but not the swastikas in his name on a Brooklyn playground."

The playground, which was dedicated in May 2013, includes basketball courts, a community garden, a greenhouse, fitness area, an open play space, drinking fountains and a dog run.

According to a tweet from the Beastie Boys' official account, Lander will join with New York State Senator Daniel Squadron and Congresswoman Nydia Velásquez and other community leaders at a demonstration at the park Sunday morning.

"Hate has no place in Brooklyn, NYC, or America," it read.
