Are You the Exception To The Rule or Just The Rule?

If you haven’t seen the movie “He’s Just Not That In To You,” you are missing out on one of the best life lessons when it comes to love. At some time or another we have all believed that we could change the way people treat us and make them love us the same way we love them, but as we start to realize that rarely happens, we eventually realize that the only thing we can control in life is…ourselves.

So, after years of dating, jumping in and out of relationships, and not to mention you have been doing everything you thought would get you the perfect relationship, you find yourself back at square one, or just plain dissatisfied. Then you look at your friend that ended up with the fairytale ending with the perfect partner, picket fence, and 2.5 kids that you always wanted and you can’t help but wonder…Why Not Me?!

You thought you did everything right. You dated longer than 6 months, you didn’t jump in the sack on the first date and all your friends just knew that when Christmas or Valentine’s Day rolled around, you were the next one in line to get a ring. But instead, you repeat another year of lukewarm bliss, with more issues than the last. So, after all this time, what went wrong and why does it feel like you can’t get past that twilight zone in relationships?

The problem is that most of us are the Rule and not the Exception. The Rule is the person who follows every tip in the books, every advice column, but still never coming out on top. Well, since all the advice in the world hasn’t helped yet, how do you become the Exception? Easy! You have to stop following the right formulas with the wrong people.

There is no simpler answer than that. If you see something that isn’t right in the beginning, don’t trick yourself and hope that you can change them…because you can’t. But you can do one thing…and that is to change how you do things. Stop make excuses, and stop convincing yourself that you’re situation is different, because it’s not. When someone shows you who they are, believe them and if something doesn’t seem right, it’s not. Stop being the rule, and become the exception, because the Exception is the one that doesn’t settle…the Rule does.
