Funkmaster Flex will soon be leaving his Hot 97 show that's been playing on the airwaves since 1992.

When is Funk Flex's last show on Hot 97?

On Thursday afternoon (Aug. 28), the legendary New York DJ announced on X, formerly Twitter, that his final show will be on Sept. 1.

"THIS MONDAY LABOR DAY SEPTEMBER 1ST WITH BE MY LAST SHOW ON HOT97 AT 7PM! ALL THINGS COME TO AN END! END OF AN ERA THAT I ENJOYED VERY MUCH!" wrote Funk Flex, legal name Aston George Taylor Jr.

Is Funk Flex retiring?

Along with promising to make his final Hot 97 show a "great one," the DJ thanked those who've supported him since the beginning of his time at the storied radio station.

Although Funk Flex didn't specify whether he'd be retiring completely, social media users took his announcement to heart and shared some of their last song requests.

Fans mainly wanted a replay of Jay-Z and Ye's "Otis," on which Funk Flex dropped multiple "bombs" in 2011. Funk has been known to press the explosive sound effect for impressive songs.

Who is DJ Funk Flex?

The Bronx native joined Hot 97 in November 1992, where he was the host of the station's first hip-hop show. Along with nightly mixes, Funk Flex is known for his artist interviews and giving visitors the room to drop freestyles.

Earlier this month, the DJ received the esteemed honor of the Key to the City by New York City Mayor Eric Adams.

Funk Flex was recognized for his "three decades of influence on the airwaves" and having "unwavering support for emerging artists, and his role in shaping the global reach of NYC’s hip hop scene through his iconic platform on HOT 97," per MediaCo Holding Inc., Hot 97's parent company.

"I’m humbled and honored to receive the Key to the City I’ve always called home,” Funk Flex said. "New York made me. HOT 97 gave me the mic. And hip hop gave me a voice. This moment means everything."
