*After receiving a not guilty verdict in the 2012 murder case of Trayvon Martin, George Zimmermanhas asked the state of Florida to cover his legal bills.
According to a spokesman for Mark O’Mara, Zimmerman’s attorney, the former defendant seeks to recoup $200,000 to $300,000 of his legal fees.
“That is a ballpark estimate,” the spokesman said. “It will be a few weeks before everything is all together and we’re in a position to file that motion.”
Zimmerman is looking to get back the expenses he incurred during the trial which includes retaining expert witnesses, travel, document fees, etc. He is allowed to petition the state for repayment of legal costs under the Florida statute.
George Zimmerman raised several hundred thousand dollars through a defense fund during the trial.
He has been quite active since the conclusion of his trial, assisting a family in a car accident, getting pulled over for speeding in Texas, and touring the gun factory that made the weapon that shot Martin.
