“We Made History Together”: Angie Martinez, AKA, “The Voice Of New York,” Resigns From HOT 97

Today I resigned from HOT97. I am grateful to the Emmis family for my time with the company and the immeasurable way that it has shaped my life. We made history together in so many ways and I will cherish those memories and my friendships forever. This was one of the toughest decisions I’ve ever had to make but ultimately it is time to move on, to grow and to be challenged in new ways. Saying goodbye is always emotional and bitter sweet but I am extremely excited about the future. Thank you HOT97 and most importantly….the listeners… for an unimaginable journey. Today will be my last show ❤️ stay tuned…. Love, angie

Martinez started working for HOT 97 back when she was 16. She was given the task of answering hot lines at the station before getting the chance to actually work on-air and eventually having her own program, The Angie Martinez Show. But Martinez has also started doing more on-camera work, including doing special correspondence work for Extra at different events since last year. Could she be getting a more permanent position on the show? Or could she be making a move to competitor Power 105.1? Because the folks over there were cheesing it up (literally) about her departure from HOT 97, reposting her goodbye message with a smiley face. But whatever her next move is, we’re sure that Martinez will do great work. She’s always been a great personality, on-screen (including on the station’s VH1 reality television, This Is Hot 97) and off, and I’m sure it will be hard for the station to replace her.

If you live in NYC, were you a fan of her radio show?
