*Luther Campbell is suing University of Miami Booster Nevin Shapiro for allegedly slandering him in a Yahoo news report.
The school sponsor claimed that the former 2 Live Crew member was giving improper benefits to U. of Miami players.
“When you claim that you’re ‘Little Luke’ and you’re a Ponzi schemer and the reason why you claim you’re ‘Little Luke’ [is] you’re saying I did something illegal … I have a real serious problem with that,” Campbell said to NBC Miami.
In the news article, Shapiro stated:
“Here’s the thing: Luther Campbell was the first uncle who took care of players before I got going.” “His role was diminished by the NCAA and the school, and someone needed to pick up that mantle. That someone was me. He was ‘Uncle Luke,’ and I became ‘Little Luke.’”
Campbell’s lawsuit says the booster’s comments were made out of “spite, ill-will and revenge.”
Shapiro is currently serving 20 years in federal prison for his involvement in a $930 million Ponzi scheme.
