'The Cosby Show' 29th Anniversary: Our Favorite Moments

Twenty-nine years ago today, one of the most iconic and impactful shows about a black family debuted on television sets around the nation: "The Cosby Show."

The show aired on NBC for eight seasons, and led to the spin off "A Different World." TV Guide once said that the show "almost single-handedly revived the sitcom genre and NBC's ratings fortunes after ABC passed on the series."

Despite, Bill Cosby's controversial personal statements about racism and the black community, the show he created and starred in contributed to pushing the needle forward on race relations in America. At the time Cosby was able to showcase a successful upper middle class African-American family experiencing everyday situations, something that had never been shown on television.
