*We’re still trying to figure out what Steve Harvey sees in Donald Trump that nobody else, other than his voting base, sees in the orange man. Did he put a spell or something on Harvey when they met in Trump Tower back in January? Hmmm.

We’re wondering because now the radio and TV host is dragging Snoop Dogg for his parody of Trump in his video “Lavender” which shows the rapper shooting a Trump-clown character with a toy gun.

One could argue Harvey won’t tolerate free speech if it means President Trump is the target. As far as the former stand-up comedian is concerned, Trump is president and his presidency should get the ultimate respect. Period.

Near the end of the week Harvey took on the issue via his radio show.

“The problem with all this [criticism of Trump] is, is that there is an office in this country called the ‘president,’ and you have to respect the office,” Harvey said. “You really do. Whether you want to or not. You have to respect the office. They got laws.”

Specifically, here’s what he had to say about the Snoop Dogg video incident:

“Where we have to be smart about this, young brothers and the people who are the truth tellers is the way that they will bend it and twist it. Here’s the problem, if something happens do you get brought in as the copycat version, the reason that spurred action? ‘Cuz there’s some idiot that’s sitting at his house that’s willing to carry this out….And you don’t want to be tied to that.”

He does recognize that the rapper has a right to express himself artistically.

“He’s an artist. He has a right as an artist to do his art in any form.”

But, as far as Harvey is concerned, the presidency “trumps” all that and should be “respected”:

“The problem with all this that there is an office in this country called the ‘president,’ and you have to respect the office. You really do. Whether you want to or not. You have to respect the office. They got laws…I would hate for anything to come down.”

The TV host also spoke on the tweet that Bow Wow sent about pimping out Trump’s wife, Melania:

“You start messing around with this man’s wife – who ain’t in this at all. The hell that come down with messing with this man’s family, is great. Y’all got to be smart man.”

In spite of what Harvey says, we don’t think there’s a lot of sympathy for his favorable sentiment toward 45. That’s because, in the eyes of a lot of people, he just doesn’t deserve support or respect because he, himself hasn’t shown respect for the office, as writer Robert Longfellow of HipHopWired observes:

Respect the office?

How about Trump not disrespect an esteemed Black reporter by asking her to set up a meeting with the Congressional Black Caucus as if she’s a secretary?

How about Trump not falsely accuse a legitimate President like Barack Obama of tapping his phone lines?

How about Trump’s Housing Secretary, fellow House Negro Uncle Ben Carson, not say slaves were “immigrants”?

How about Trump do anything that even slightly makes it seems like he respects Black people, and just maybe they will return the favor.
