TYLER CONWAYStephen Curry told reporters his squat following Kevin Durant's go-ahead three-pointer in the fourth quarter of Game 3's win over the Cleveland Cavaliers was a "spontaneous" reaction.
"It was all spontaneous. I wish I could have a little bit more control over here," Curry said Thursday, via Chris Walder of The Score. "The reactions in certain situations ... I really don't know what I did last night. I saw it, but I don't know what I was doing. I even dropped my mouthpiece because I was so uncoordinated in that sense. It is what it is."
Durant's three put the Warriors up 114-113 with 45.3 seconds remaining, putting them ahead for good on their way to a 118-113 victory. Curry's celebration was noticed by a number of Cavs fans on social media, who wondered whether the two-time MVP was mimicking defecating on Cleveland's court.
The Finals have been something of a testing ground for new Curry celebrations. He previously broke out a big leg kick after knocking down a three in Game 1. After keeping things relatively quiet in Game 2, the squat can be added to a potential list of signature Curry celebrations.
With the way things are going for the Warriors, Curry could probably break out a mid-game cartwheel in Game 4 and be perfectly fine. Golden State has won 15 straight postseason games, already a record, and is one win away from the first undefeated playoffs of the NBA's current format.
It's kind of hard to blame him for having a little fun—even if we'd probably table the squat thing going forward. Regardless of optics, that's just asking for someone to trip over his back running up the court.
