*Spike Lee drops by the studio digs of his longtime friend in an episode of “The Steve Harvey Show,” airing Tuesday, Feb. 2.
The pair discuss a number of hot button issues, including the #OscarsSoWhite controversy and his reasons for refusing to attend the Feb. 28 ceremony, despite being invited as part of this year’s honorary recipients awarded in November .
“Of the 20 nominations that actors have, there were zero people of color,” Spike told Steve. “Tanya, my wife, said, ‘We can’t go.'”
“[I’m] going to the Knick game instead,” he added.
Later, he suggested that reporters who continue to seek his comment about the controversy are asking the wrong person.
“They need to start calling up these white nominees,” Spike said, adding. “I want to hear what Hollywood studio executives feel about this.”
In a trip down memory lane, Spike and Steve will also chat about the “Kings of Comedy,” which Lee directed.
Also discussed is Spike’s new film “Chi-Raq” (available now on DVD and February 4 on Amazon Prime), which centers on gun violence in broken communities throughout Chicago. The filmmaker will be joined on stage by Chicago leader and activist, Father Michael Pfleger to discuss Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s reaction to the film and what currently is being done to curb gun violence on the South Side of Chicago.
