Report: Brown’s BET Tears Came from Eye Drops; Lloyd Explains Remarks

*Us Magazine is citing a source who claims Chris Brown used tear-inducing eye-drops just before taking the stage at the BET Awards to fake his emotional breakdown.

“He rubbed it in and he started crying,” a source said.

Brown’s rep denies the allegation, claiming it is “completely untrue.” But Us Magazine’s unnamed witness says the singer definitely received eye drops from one of his bodyguards, and the crying fit during his performance of Michael Jackson’s “Man in the Mirror” was nothing more than crocodile tears.

Meanwhile, R&B singer Lloyd is clarifying remarks he made during an interview in which he admitted advising Chris Brown to cry during his BET performance.

As previously reported, Lloyd was interviewed backstage after Brown’s set and told the Web site Rap-Up: “[Chris is] back with a vengeance. I think that they’re gonna find a place in their heart for him again….I told him man, you gotta go up there, you gotta cry, you gotta really show your heart to the world and they’ll understand.”

On Tuesday, Lloyd suggested that his comments weren’t meant to imply that Brown’s tears were insincere.

“I think he cried about a number of things. About the fact that he thought people would hate him forever because of one mistake. Feeling that love on stage was probably overwhelming. Plus MJ being gone and him performing “Man in the Mirror”, that song is powerful, especially for his situation. It pushed him over the edge,” Lloyd wrote on his Young Goldie blog.

Specifically regarding his comment to Rap-Up about advising Brown to cry, Lloyd said: “To say that he was faking or that I’m hating on him, that’s some bull sh*t. Last week Essence.com asked me what artist most embodied MJ. I told them it was Chris. I never saw MJ perform live, but [Chris Brown] is the closest thing I’ve witnessed. Chris is back, and I’m just as excited as his fans are. It’s just frustrating that people want to make everything negative.”
