Rick Ross has been released from jail a week after getting arrested for alleged assault and kidnapping. After paying a $2m (£1.28m) bond, the rapper, whose real name is Williams Roberts, agreed to 24-hour electronic GPS monitoring.

The 39-year-old was being held on charges of the kidnapping, aggravated assault and aggravated battery of a groundskeeper at his property. His bodyguard, whose name was not released, faces the same charges.

According to TMZ, his bond money consisted of $1m equity from the Georgia mansion he bought from boxer Evander Holyfield and another property, as well as $500,000 surety bond from a bail bondsman and $500,000 in cash.

He was arrested on 24 June and taken to Fayette County jail, in Fayetteville, south of Atlanta, where he was held until his release on 1 July.

Ross was allegedly upset that a groundskeeper – who also lives on his property – had invited friends over for his birthday. He reportedly dragged him into the house, held a gun to his chest and threatened to shoot him
