*Omarion withdrew from a scheduled appearance at London’s DSTRKT nightclub on Oct. 2, just days after the venue was accused of denying entry to women deemed too dark-skinned or overweight.
The singer and star of VH1’s “Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood” took to Twitter hours before he was due to perform at the popular West End venue, saying, “I will not be attending #DstrktLondon tonight period.”
Hundreds of fans praised his decision as a social media campaign formed against the club.
This all started last week when a woman, Lin Mei (pictured above), claimed she was invited to DSTRKT by a promoter, only to have her friends Reisha and Tasha told to stand across the street to be examined by management.
It’s claimed the friends were told they were “too dark” and “overweight” to be allowed entry.
The fourth woman in the group, Zalika Miller, told ITV News: “Before we got to the club, the promoter asked us for pictures of girls my friend [Lin] was bringing. He said ‘make sure if you bring black girls they’re of a certain calibre.’ When we got down there they weren’t allowed to go in and told to step out of line.”
DSTRKT released a statement claiming it does not practice racism or sexism at its doors:
DSTRKT has never operated any sexual or racial, discriminatory door policy. Its management and staff abhor all forms of racial and sexual discrimination. What DSTRKT does practice is a balanced environment. – DSTRKT STATEMENT
Meanwhile, London-born former NFL player, Osi Umenyiora, also pulled out of an event he was scheduled to attend at DSTRKT, due to its door policy.
