Nicki Minaj Finally Talks About Cardi B Drama, Drake & Meek Mil...

After dropping two brand new songs with “Chun-Li” and “Barbie Tingz,” which you can listen to here, Nicki Minaj has finally broken her silence regarding a few topics during a Q&A with Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show, as they delve into talking about Meek Mill, Drake, Cardi B, the making of her video “MotoSport” and more.

On Meek Mill‘s legal case…

NM: “I don’t wanna talk about legal things… What I will say now is that.. I will say that the judge in question did everything I asked of her. So, I can’t badmouth her because I met her personally, and I know what she said to us. And he knows that, and I know that. But I wouldn’t wish jail on anybody.” Nicki added, “What made me shed tears the other day was seeing his mother cry…. She, during the relationship, was always so sweet to me.”

On Meek Mill’s beef with Drake from 2015-16…

NM: “One of the hardest parts of [my] career… At the time, I did love both of them…. I felt so imprisoned in that moment.” Nicki also recalls Drake telling her, ‘I wasn’t worried about anything in that entire situation other than what if Nicki takes a shot at me. Then what? What if Nicki spits a bar at me?’… Nicki said that she tried to discourage Meek from participating in the beef. “It was difficult to stay out of it. I was behind the scenes, wishing it wouldn’t happen… I said, ‘Don’t do that.’ I think, as artists, we all look back on things that we shouldn’t have done. And that was one of those things he shouldn’t have done. But he did it, and it is what it is. What I do know is that Meek and Drake have moved on from that.”

On Drake…

NM: “He’s always mad at me over something. He always finds a reason to not be my friend anymore. We’re like an old married couple… On the real, Drake also has given me some of the best advice of my career. He’s given me great advice. He’s very smart. Also, even when I couldn’t speak to him, I think he felt the love I will always have for him.”

On Cardi B…

NM: “She’s done exactly what she should have done. She’s gone full steam ahead. Congratulations to her. The only thing with Cardi that really, really, really hurt my feelings was the first interview she did after ‘MotorSport’ came out. I remember when I first came in the game, if a female of that stature had done a feature with me on it, I would only be singing their praises and saying thank you. The first interview she did after ‘MotorSport’ came out, it just really hurt me. She looked so aggravated and angry. The only thing she kept saying was, ‘I didn’t hear that verse. She changed her verse.’ I was like, ‘What?’ I remember when I first did a song with Trina for the first time, that’s why ’til this day, I love Trina. She’s the first female rapper that acknowledged me behind the scenes…You’ve never heard me speak ill of Trina because of that. That’s very important. Her most recent interview, Cardi, that’s when I came back on Instagram, I saw it, and I finally felt like she said something genuinely nice about me. But ‘MotorSport,’ I kinda felt ambushed.”

On the making of the “Motorsport” video…

NM: She recalled Quavo texting her, “Is it OK to put Cardi on it?” She told Lowe that he replied, “Yeah, let’s do it.” After Migos shared a behind-the-scenes preview of the “MotorSport” video, fans wondered why Nicki was not in the clip.

Nicki said that she had a scheduling conflict, and that it hurt her that nobody tried to “clear the air,” then added, “And you still did interviews just to paint Nicki as the bad person. And play the victim. And that really, really hurt me because I really fully supported her [Cardi B]. And up until this recent interview she did [with Ebro Darden for Beats 1], I had never seen her show me genuine love in an interview. And I can only imagine how many girls wished they could’ve been on a song with Nicki Minaj.”

On her upcoming album, after dropping the two new singles “Chun-Li” and “Barbie Tingz”…

NM: “This is the best album in my life that I’ve ever created.” She also added that she started working on the record in December 2017, and some tracks were already written a year or a year-and-a-half ago.
