Kameelah ‘Meelah’ Williams
*“R&B Divas: Atlanta” is returning to TV One for a third sizzling season with some new divas – 702 singer Kameelah “Meelah” Williams and former Destiny’s Child singer LaTavia Roberson.
“O-M-G. I’m still pinching myself. It feels amazing,” raved Williams about being the latest addition to the reality show.
The “Steelo” singer had been watching the show and says she’s now feeling a range of emotions about being on it, “I’m flattered and humbled and excited and just honored to even be a part of this amazing opportunity.”
The newcomers are joining Monifah Carter, Syleena Johnson, Angie Stone and Keke Wyatt as they all try to secure record deals.
Williams is busy working on a new album with singer-songwriter Musiq Soulchild, the father of her 4 year-old son.
“He’s so talented,” she says about Soulchild. “We’re friends. We’re co-parents. We have a duet together that hopefully you guys will be able to hear a little bit of on the show.”
Look for the album, she says, to come out in early spring which will coincide with the premiere of the new season of the show.
She gets passionate when she talks about their young son who suffers from autism, a neurodevelopmental disorder. Williams struggled with whether she was going to discuss it on the show for fear of making it appear she was exploiting his special needs. But, she decided it was important to let people know about his struggles so she could hopefully be of some assistance to other people with autistic children.
“There are so many parents who are not necessarily even celebrities and parents who are maybe even young and just don’t know how to deal with raising a child with developmental delays. It’s very challenging.”
Williams says she has often sought out and gotten support from actress Holly Robinson Peete. Her 15 year-old son was diagnosed with autism when he was three and Robinson Peete has become a well-known advocate for the incurable disorder.
You won’t be seeing Faith Evans back in front of the cameras – serving only as Executive Producer of the show.
Nicci Gilbert, who one tabloid wrote was leaving Divas because “it nearly caused her to have a nervous breakdown” is not completely gone either. Like Evans, she’ll be an Executive Producer of the popular cable TV show.
A premiere date for the new season has not been announced.
