On Friday, (Oct. 27) Houston Texans owner Bob McNair’s sent the internet into a frenzy after his comments regarding the NFL players and national anthem protests. McNair said, “We can’t have inmates running the prison,” inferring the players were in fact prisoners.
Eventually, McNair backtracked on his comments via press release after the negativity surrounding his organization quickly mounted. Members of the Texans felt disrespected by their team's owner, including standout wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who sat out Friday’s (Oct. 27) practice. Prior to Sunday’s (Oct. 29) match up in Seattle every Texans player with the exception of six took a knee in response to McNair during the national anthem.
JAY Z addressed the owner’s comments during his set on the opening night (Oct. 27) of his 4:44 Tour in Anaheim, Calif. saying, “Injuring themselves on the field, giving it all they got. That’s how they look at you. That’s what they think about you," Hov, who performed in a Colin Kaepernick jersey on SNL earlier this month continued, "We got so much further to go. The truth is we all believe in whatever you believe in. God, Allah. Whatever you believe in, we come from one source which means we are all brothers and sisters at the end of the day.” The Brooklyn native proceeded to perform "The Story of O.J." soon after his remarks.
