*Rick Ross is already knee deep in legal trouble over jacking the name of real gangster “Freeway” Ricky Ross. Now the rapper has gone and riled up the son of John Gotti after his father’s famous nickname ended up the title of Rick’s new album, “Teflon Don.”
The moniker was first used by New York newspapers to describe John Gotti, the former head of New York’s Gambino crime family who won multiple acquittals in the 1980s and 1990s.
“My grandfather paid his dues for that nickname. That was my grandfather’s life,” said Carmine Agnello, who is attempting to launch a rap career under the name Carmine Gotti.
“He should have asked for permission. A standup, respectable guy would come and ask ‘If I could use the nickname,’” said Agnello, 24. “I think he’s a great artist, but you can’t just start calling yourself that to sell records …He wants to go for that whole image, but hey, be yourself.”
Ross, born William Leonard Roberts, took on the rap name “Rick Ross,” presumably after Los Angeles cocaine kingpin “Freeway” Ricky Ross. The latter is now suing the rapper over the use of his name and image.
Last week, a judge denied Freeway’s request to block the release of “Teflon Don.”
