Last week, G. Dep, the man who walked into a Manhattan police station, confessing to the murder of John Henkel 17 years ago, said he did it because he had some business with a higher being.
“I’m just trying to get right with God,” said the confessed killer and former Bad Boy Records signee. He also didn’t know of the victim had indeed died that day, Oct. 19, 1993.
“I was surprised – for some reason, I really didn’t think that he died,” Dep revealed. “When they told me, I was like, ‘Oh, I’m not going home after this.’”
He is facing life in prison.
With him coming forward, Dep’s family was actually against him doing so.
“I told my mom and my girlfriend that I wanted to confess, and they both told me to leave it in the past,” he said. “[My girlfriend] is pretty peeved.”
He continued:
“I started to wonder if all the bad things that happened to me in my life were karma for what I did… you start to think ‘My happiness is because of someone else’s sadness.’ I thought that if I turned myself in, it might give me closure.”
