Bobby Bonilla
Imagine if you made $50 million playing major league baseball, then after playing for the team you inked another deal that would get you another $30 million if you would just leave? It would be like being on a luxurious unemployment program where the checks seem endless and fat.
Well, Bobby Bonilla hasn’t picked up a baseball bat in over 10 years and he is living in a mansion collecting salaries for jobs he doesn’t even have to show up for. What is it about him that people pay him to be outside the office? I know at least 16% of the nation’s unemployed that would like to get that sweet deal.
According to the NY Post, the guy is getting $30 million from the New York Mets starting July 1 and the checks wont’ stop until 2035. Bonilla was a pain in the Mets manager, Bobby Valentine’s ass by the end of 1999. He had a $50 million contract with the team yet Valentine didn’t care and was simply interested in getting him stripped from the roster. Bonilla notoriously started playing cards during games and doing other things to annoy Valentine while they feuded.
Maybe Valentine thought 2011 was so far off that he wouldn’t really have to pay him or he would’ve made so much money that the number didn’t matter.
