Eddie Murphy on Oscars: ‘I Promise I’ll Stay All Night’

*After famously dashing out of the 2007 Academy Awards the moment he lost for best supporting actor, Eddie Murphy is promising that he’ll stick around until the end this time as host of the February broadcast.

“I’m looking forward to doing it and I promise I’ll stay there all night,” Murphy said during a press conference for his comedy thriller “Tower Heist.”

He also said he doesn’t feel nervous at all. “Oscars is a fun thing to do,” he said. “I don’t feel the pressure. I get to introduce people and stand up straight. Maybe I’ll be in a couple silly sketches or something.”

The actor said he hasn’t worked on any Oscar material so far, because “no one’s got nominated yet.”

Asked why he accepted the hosting offer, Murphy said: “Never got to it. I’ve only been to the Oscars two or three times in 30 years.”

“Tower Heist” director Brett Ratner didn’t speak about his Oscar producing role during the press conference.

Murphy hasn’t hosted an awards show since the 1985 MTV Video Music Awards. The 84th annual Academy Awards will be broadcast by ABC on Feb. 26.
