Yesterday afternoon The Vertical's Shams Charania broke the news that Dwyane Wade reached an agreement with the Cleveland Cavaliers on a one-year $2.3 million contract. Wade is expected to officially sign with the Cavs today after clearing waivers, and will once again be reunited with LeBron James as the duo pursues their third NBA title together.
Neither player has publicly commented on the deal but Cavs center Tristan Thompson expects a smooth transition for Dwyane Wade.
Per ESPN,
"He's pretty familiar with most of the guys on our team, whether playing against or playing with," he said. "I think he's going to jell pretty well. He's a veteran. He's always been a good locker room guy. We've never heard anything bad.
"It would be great for our team to have another championship-mentality player on our team. It's just more pieces to the puzzle."
Wade is expected to start for Cleveland in the upcoming season which will get underway on Tuesday, October 17th, as the Cavs host Kyrie Irving, Gordon Hayward and the Boston Celtics.
The 35-year old 3x NBA champion reportedly gave up $5.7 million this season to play alongside LeBron. Both players will be entering their 15th NBA season.
