*LeBron James caused somewhat of a controversy when he put his arm around Princess Kate Middleton after Monday night’s Brooklyn Nets-Cleveland Cavaliers game — breaking royal protocol.
But reports are probably throwing what happened out of proportion. Especially since Middleton and husband Prince William want folks to feel comfortable around them.
“When they’re meeting people, they want to have a conversation without the other person worrying too much about how to address them,” a source said. “The message is, address them in whatever way you feel most comfortable.”
James isn’t the first public figure to break royal protocol. First Lady Michelle Obama broke it when she hugged Queen Elizabeth.
But Prince William and Princess Kate – a/k/a the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge – are a little more open, laid back and willing to break away from some tradition.
