Christina Aguilera’s National Anthem Fail at Super Bowl XLV

Christina Aguilera’s National Anthem Fail at Super Bowl XLV
Singer responds to criticism via Twitter

*Christina Aguilera is catching serious flack for screwing up the words to the National Anthem at the Super Bowl Sunday.

It’s not like it was her first time doing it on a national stage. She’s done the song numerous times in the past at previous sporting events including Game 7 of last year’s NBA finals.

“What so proudly we watched at the twilight’s last reaming,” is what Aguilera, 30, belted out about a minute into the song, to the surprise of fans at the game and those watching on TV.

What should have come next: “O’er the ramparts we watch’d, were so gallantly streaming.”

You know Twitter immediately lit up with reactions to Aguilera’s boo boo.

“Egypt thanks Christina Aguilera for botching the national anthem and bumping them off the Twitter trending list,” one user tweeted.

“Blowing the words of the anthem at the Super Bowl. Wow. Do they take away one of her five Grammys for that? Two?” Sports Illustrated’s Joe Posnanski added.

And of course the singer wasn’t about to let all the Twitter disses go without a response. Via her account, she shot back:

“Acapella, (LIVE) with no orchestra,..millions of people watching!! Like @nickiminaj said…”Haters you can kill yourself”! HA! #superbowl.”

Later, in a statement to the Associated Press, Aguilera said, “I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through.”
