Bobby Shmurda is suing New York City for what he is claiming was a false arrest on gun and drug charges by the NYPD, the rapper's lawyer Alex Spiro has confirmed with Billboard.

The lawsuit dates back to a June 3, 2014, incident when Shmurda -- whose real name is Ackquille Pollard -- was arrested at a friend's apartment on Rockaway Parkway in Brooklyn, according to the New York Daily News, which first reported the news.
"When one of the occupants opened the door a slight bit to see who was there, Officer Douglas Corso and other police officers kicked in the door and illegally entered the residence without a search warrant," the federal lawsuit states according to the Daily News.

The police claimed Pollard had tried to hide a handgun inside a couch before they allegedly ransacked the apartment, arresting Shmurda despite failing to produce any gun or drug paraphernalia. Throughout it all, the police were "chanting the lyrics to his chart-topping songs," Shmurda claims.
The charges were eventually dismissed but as a result of the arrest, Shmurda claims he suffered permanent "nervous shock and mental anguish."
Shmurda is currently facing weapons possession charges in a separate case and is being held on $2 million bail, having spent more than a year in jail. Following a long series of delays, his newest trail date is scheduled for May 11.
