*BET and CENTRIC will carry the funeral of Whitney Houston on Saturday in its BET News special, “Live: The Homegoing of Whitney Houston,” followed by “BET Remembers Whitney,” a one-hour special commemorating the late entertainer. The funeral will also be streamed live over the Internet as well.
Beginning at 11:30 a.m. ET/8:30 a.m. PT, BET News and CENTRIC, along with on-air correspondents April Woodard and Lola Oguinake, will bring viewers complete coverage of Houston’s funeral from New Hope Baptist Church, in Newark, New Jersey.
At 7 p.m., “BET Remembers Whitney” features BET News correspondent Bevy Smith sitting down with Whitney’s “confidents and colleagues” – including Kim Burrell, Kelley Price, Faith Evans, Ledisi, India.Arie, Tisha Martin Campbell and Tichina Arnold – to share memories of the superstar as a vocalist, mentor, mother and friend.
Some of those to be present include Whitney’s “The Bodyguard” co-star Kevin Costner as well as Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin who will both sing. Clive Davis is also expected to speak at the funeral.
Long-time friend and Gospel singer Marvin L. Winans will deliver the eulogy. In an interview with Anderson Cooper on CNN’s “AC360,” Winans lovingly shared that he and the Houston family will always love Whitney.
“I don’t think knowing Cissy (Houston’s mother) and the Houston family … it was a matter of public or private as it was this is my daughter, this is my sister, this is my mother, this is my friend and we want to do this with dignity.”
The family’s thinking, Winans told “AC360,” is “we loved her when she was Nippy (a nickname) in New Jersey. The world loves her because of her voice. But if Nippy could not sing, the Houston family would love her.”
