*Earlier this year we reported on Mattel’s launch of its Sheroes collection of Barbie dolls.
The dolls celebrate women who have inspired young girls by going beyond boundaries. Ava DuVernay, the director of “Selma,” was a part of the collection.
Today, DuVernay’s doll will go on sale and can be purchased on the Barbie Collection site. The doll wasn’t originally going to be mass-produced, but DuVernay’s fans spoke and Mattel listened.
