*Wells Fargo has announced the launch of a new storytelling campaign featuring a number of celebrities including hip hop artist Talib Kweli.
Kweli will be one of the curators for the four-part short film series, “Untold Stories: Our Inspired History.”
The rapper will be joined in the campaign by actor Lance Gross, actress Lauren London, and American Idol winner Jordin Sparks. During the video shorts, these celebrities will be sharing key points of black history with artifacts from the galleries of Bernard and Shirley Kinsey, the celebrated Kinsey Collection.
“Wells Fargo’s primary goal in collaborating with the Kinsey family to bring this collection to audiences across the country was to create an opportunity for others to engage in dialogue around the rich history of African Americans.” says Lisa Frison, African American segment manager in a press release. “The Untold Stories campaign is an exciting extension of this partnership, and an innovative way to continue the discussion about the significant contributions of African Americans.”
During Kweli’s short, “Family First,” we will be told the story of a man named Henry Butler, who sought to purchase his enslaved family’s freedom for $100.
Blogger Denene Millner, also part of the campaign, reflected on the Butler tale as retold by Kweli on her blog, My Brown Baby, and will have a video feature spot as well.
