Rappers destroy £208,000 Maybach - for charity

 

Lovers of luxury cars, look away now: US rap "stars" Jay Z and Kanye West have taken a blow torch and a saw to a Maybach 57 limousine, in the video for their new release, entitled 'Otis.'

It's one thing to sell your car for cash, but to chop it up, remodel it and hope it raises some funds for a cause is pretty extreme. However, that what Messers Z and West have been doing to the limousine in their ode to Otis Redding.

While no technical specifications were released, Top Gear assumes the car is a 550 bhp V12. It is said to be worth £280,000.

When finished, the rappers' handiwork leaves the car looking more like a souped-up dune buggy. It has no roof and no doors, hence seat-belts are an issue. It also has "colossal Brabus-style" wheel arches and a badly welded steel trim.

It also comes complete with four models sitting in the back seat.

However, the mutilation wasn't all in vain, it was done to raise money for the millions of starving people who are suffering in East Africa from devastating drought, insideline.com asserts.

The "customised" car will be sold at auction and the proceeds will all go to the East African Drought Disaster relief fund. 

Maybach might even appreciate the publicity. The "limping" brand is selling 300-500 vehicles globally every year but Daimler boss, Dr Dieter Zetsche admitted that: "we are not running at the levels which we planned when we launched the product
