Rachel Roy tells 'People' she is not 'Becky' referenced in Beyonce's 'Lemonade'

Rachel Roy addressed rumors that she's been involved with Jay-Z in a statement to PeopleTuesday, after receiving a barrage of online messages and even death threats from overzealous Beyoncé fans. Speculation that the rap mogul had cheated on his wife with the designer reached a fever pitch this weekend after Beyoncé released her albumLemonade, which includes incendiary lyrics about a woman she dubbed "Becky with the good hair."

Fans -- known as the Beyhive -- pounced on the designer after she posted an Instagram photo referencing the "good hair" line, which she explained to People was a joke.

"I want to put the speculation and rumors to rest. My Instagram post was meant to be fun and lighthearted, it was misunderstood as something other than that," Roy said. "There is no validity to the idea that the song references me personally. There is no truth to the rumors."

The rumors date back to a fight between Beyoncé's sister, Solange, and Jay-Z in anelevator after the Met Gala in 2014. Though in statements addressing the incident, the family never indicated Roy was involved.

Initial Twitter chatter started as messages of support for the Formation singer, but the swarm quickly became vitriolic, attacking the Instagram account of Roy's daughter after the designer made her own private.

"Consequently, online haters have targeted me and my daughters in a hurtful and scary manner, including physical threats. As a mother – and I know many mothers would agree – I feel that bullying in any form is harmful and unacceptable."
