Kim K Called a ‘Phony’ after Haiti Visit and is Oprah Pissed at Her?

 

 *OK, it’s time to hold your nose and read because … the National Enquirer is reporting that reality TV star Kim Kardashian tried to repair her tattered image by visiting earthquake-ravaged Haiti on a ‘mercy’ mission. Kim evoked the wrath of television viewers after she filed for divorce 72 days after her made-for-TV nuptials to NBA player Kris Humphries, prompting fans to slam the wedding as a publicity ploy. But the plan backfired as irate Haitian locals blasted the reality TV star as a “phony” and told her, “Go back home, Kim!” Kim, accompanied by her mother/manager Kris Jenner—stayed in the impoverished country for a brief 48 hours. Kim even appeared in a fashion show where she strutted down the aisle. The $1,000 a night fee to stay at the Karibe Hotel, the best lodging in poverty-plagued Port-au-Prince, is 2 ½ times the average Haitian’s $400 annual salary. Her accommodations had private elevators, a Jacuzzi, and dual plasma TVs. It is reported that Kim treated hotel staffers like her own personal servants. “Kim seemed really inconvenienced by the poverty and the sanitary conditions inHaiti,” said another source. “After she shook several people’s hands, she was spotted cleaning her own hands with disinfectant wipe.” RELATED: Brandy Mad at Tyler Perry Because of Kim Kardashian? “Kim’s trip was NOT about helping Haiti,” a Haitian closely connected to Kim’s stay told The Enquirer. “She just came down here for a photo op and then flew back to her celebrity life. She did nothing for Haiti.” Kim reportedly contacted the Haitian relief organization We Advance, co-founded by “Prime Suspect” star Maria Bello after a massive 7.0 earthquake devastated Haiti in January 2010. The quake killed nearly 300,000 people and left 1.5 million people homeless. Another 6,700 people perished in a cholera epidemic. A promoter for the Women, Creation and Production fashion event added that Kim “flounced around with bodyguards to keep her safe and traveled in a convoy like a visiting dignitary. It was ridiculous.” Observers also complained that both Kim and her mother dressed in pricey clothes. Port-au-Prince television producer Steve Azor told The Enquirer: “The clothes on their backs could feed a Haitian family for years. This visit was not about helping Haiti’s poor people—it was about helping Kim Kardashian revamp her image.” Meanwhile, it is reported that Oprah Winfrey was incensed that Kim’s trip upstaged her own visit to Haiti, where she interviewed Oscar-winning actor Sean Penn about his earthquake relief organization. “Publicly, Oprah will say that any publicity for Haiti is good, but privately, she allegedly told a pal, ‘I think Kim is a phony.’ Now Oprah is livid. Kim has no idea what she’s done. It’s always better to have Oprah on your side than against you.” Meanwhile, the poverty and devastation in Haiti continues.
