The first practice of the 2017 Dallas Cowboys training camp has concluded and one guy never made it to the field. Also, Jaylon Smith looked impressive in drills, even if pads only come on on Wednesday.

Stephen Jones: Whitehead’s Release "A Culmination Of Things" Over T...
The Cowboys officially released Lucky Whitehead on Monday afternoon, hours after learning of reports that the third-year wide receiver was arrested over a month ago.

"I just think we’ve given Lucky a lot of different chances along the way going back to last year," Jones said. "I think we just decided it was time to go in a different direction."

Cowboys cut Lucky Whitehead despite claims he was not in Virginia a...
Despite what Lucky Whitehead and his agent say is proof of his innocence, the Cowboys wasted no time in acting.

What is clear is that the Cowboys have run out of patience with all the incidents and involvements going on with members of the team. In Whitehead’s case, the appearance that he was trying to conceal things from the team was too much. Additionally, he is hardly a keystone for the team’s plans this year. Most fully expected him to lose his job to rookie Ryan Switzer. That made him an obvious choice to send a message that there is indeed a point where things will not be tolerated.

Dallas Cowboys rookie CB Jourdan Lewis set to testify in own defens...
Jourdan Lewis is scheduled to testify in his own defense Tuesday morning, when his misdemeanor domestic violence trial continues.

Meanwhile, Lewis’ lawyer, John Shea, said, "This is not a case about domestic violence. This is a case more about the opposite, actually. What Jourdan Lewis was doing this night was trying to remove himself from an argument so as to prevent further escalation of it, and in his attempts to remove himself from this argument, he was and [the alleged victim] prevented him from doing so peacefully."

Michael Irvin won't face sexual assault charges - Drew Davison, For...
The NFL Hall of Famer was accused of sexual assault in March, something he denied from the beginning. After an investigation, the Broward County State Attorney’s Office has decided not to bring charges.

Irvin, 51, has maintained his innocence all along and is scheduled to have a news conference with his attorney, Ken Padowitz, later today in South Florida. The incident happened in the early hours of March 21 when a 27-year-old woman told police she feared she was drugged and raped by Irvin. The rape kit in the investigation came back negative, Irvin told TMZ in May.

What message do Cowboys send by cutting Lucky Whitehead? Not one ai...
Lucky Whitehead's days as a Cowboy were numbered the minute that Ryan Switzer's name was called out in the fourth round of the of the NFL draft.

This was Garrett's Jimmy Johnson moment, and he took full advantage. There are things you tolerate from great players. Most (but not all) of Michael Irvin's high jinks came after Johnson had disappeared from Valley Ranch and discipline had loosened. But really Johnson never did more than cut players who weren't going to win championships for the Cowboys anyway -- linebacker John Roper, running back Curvin Richards, and the young kicker dispatched to the "asthma field" back in 1989.

DE Rotation, Jaylon Smith’s Work Among 9 Walkthrough Thoughts - Bry...
Even in Monday’s non-contact walkthrough, there was plenty to start learning about the Cowboys at training camp. Here are nine observations as camp gets underway:

Speaking of looking smooth, Jaylon Smith did a nice job in his morning work. I finally saw a bit of a burst that I was looking for. There was a snap where he had a carry a tight end in coverage and did so without issue. He also was able to close the hole on an edge run with some range.

Cowboys Camp Day 1: All your highlights from the first Cowboys prac...
Here is the best from the Cowboys Camp practice from day one in Oxnard.

The story of the day besides all the Lucky Whitehead mess has got to be how Jaylon Smith continues to look explosive in these drills. Anything you see with Smith is positive.

Dak Prescott offers support to Ezekiel Elliott, teammates - Todd Ar...
Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is backing teammate Ezekiel Elliott. "I take pride in helping him out every way on and off the field."

"I've made probably as many bad decisions as any of these guys have, only being 23, so I'm definitely not one that I can point fingers and be mad or be pissed," Prescott said. "All I can do is give from my young experience and the things that happened to me. As I said, those things are being handled, and it's not something I care to go on about."

Cowboys hope to lock up Zack Martin long term - Drew Davison, Fort ...
The Dallas Cowboys have reached long-term deals with Tyron Smith and Travis Frederick in recent training camps. Is guard Zack Martin next?

"We’d love to get Zack Martin done," Jones said on Sunday afternoon. "We’ve made that real clear and we’ll be going to work on him. I think he’s an important part of our future. He represents everything we want our players to be about. He’s not only a great player on the field, he’s a great person off the field. We’ll be hard at it, trying to do it."

Cowboys LB Jaylon Smith expects 'constant growth' as he begins firs...
Jaylon Smith is working extremely hard to be active week one against the New York Giants but it's a long road ahead.

"It feels great," Smith said after Monday morning's walk-through session. "Last year I was kind of a spectator just in the beginning stages of rehab. Now I'm in the mix and playing football. The plan is to work hard and every day. It varies as far as the scheduling. I'm just doing everything that they allow me to do."
