Att. Gen. Eric Holder Demands ‘The Wire’ Writers Make New Episodes

*It’s a little scary when government officials seem to have a type of power that seems nearly tyrannical. But Attorney General Eric Holder might just be getting praised for ordering the writer of HBO “The Wire” to pick their pens back up to write more episodes or a movie.

For those of you who live under a rock, the show captures the life-like grit in the streets among city police and drug dealers. It focuses on the desperate cops who are at war with the city’s narcotics issues.

And last week three of the actors joined the AG to help bring awareness to the issue of protecting children from drug abuse and exploitation.

In the midst of the event, Holder made his demands to the writers of the show, David Simon and Ed Burns.

“I want to speak directly to Mr. Burns and Mr. Simon: Do another season of ‘The Wire’,” Holder said, drawing laughter and applause from the audience. “That’s actually at a minimum. … If you don’t do a season, do a movie. We’ve done HBO movies, this is a series that deserves a movie. I want another season or I want a movie. I have a lot of power Mr. Burns and Mr. Simon.”
