At least 10 incoming Harvard University students joining the Class of 2021 found themselves without a school in mid-April, after the university rescinded their admissions due to a number of racist and sexually explicit memes posted to a Facebook group chat.

The group formed out of a larger Class of 2021 Facebook messaging group formed for the incoming freshman class. The smaller group at one point called itself "Harvard memes for horny bourgeois teens," The Harvard Crimson reported. It was there that students posted memes mocking, among other things, sexual assault and the Holocaust.

Among the screenshots of the memes viewed by the paper was one that referenced the hanging of a Mexican child as "piñata time," according to the Crimson.

The admissions office contacted students who posted in the offensive Facebook group, asking members to send over every photo they added to the page, as well as write a statement explaining their "contributions and actions."

Those contacted by administrators were then told their status with the university would be under review. The university later dismissed at least 10 people who participated in the Facebook group.

A university spokesman declined to comment on the matter, the paper reported.
