*50 Cent takes viewers along as he explores his family tree in VH1’s new RocDocs special “50 Cent: The Origin of Me,” premiering Monday, May 23.
With the help of experts, the 35-year-old rap artist, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, is able to trace his family history back 200 years.
He’s seen in the documentary telling a theatre full of students in South Carolina: “It feels good for me to learn more about my actual history.”
“A lot of people don’t know but I’m adopted,” he continues. “Yeah, my grandmother adopted me after my mother passed away. So she’s like my legal guardian. My grandparents were from out here [in Edgefield, SC] so the last time I was out here I was like 6 years old.”
